The subject of seeing the future is a tricky one and not one that I feel particularly certain about. I have had a few successful phone psychic readings which have proved to be fascinating and I have had others that have left me laughing at how much of a sham it can all turn into.

I can say this; there are people out there that really can communicate with something that helps them to get glimpses into the future. That is about as certain as I can get. I am fascinated by the world of psychology and the little tricks people use to make others believe that they can pick up on details through a paranormal source. I have been a student of this, for lack of a better word, art for a while and it is very possible to fool the average person.

However, that said, there are people who truly do have a gift for tearing out bits of the future and painting a picture of what that might mean to a particular person. Because of the internet most people are also able to gain access to the legitimate and avoid the scams. Through online psychic readings a true psychic can tell a great deal, though some prefer to meet in person, or at the very least connect over the phone.

Many people refer to those who are called upon to connect with spirits at haunted locations as psychics and I believe the term has become too general to always be considered accurate. After all, one who is able to communicate with other beings might not have any access to future events just because of their other abilities.

Visions are another topic that comes up a great deal when discussing the paranormal and I believe these might be quite common though often ignored. I personally have had visions of events or details that later become strangely apparent in life; however most of the details seem to be part of a larger puzzle and in so many cases nothing of great consequence. Would I consider myself a psychic? No way. I think most people get pieces of paranormal clutter in their heads from time to time and just ignore it. I pay attention because I already feel overly connected with things outside of the normal scope of our world, but that information is no less fragmented and in some cases seemingly useless.

So, to get back to the point, my general theory on psychics is that the experience can be very useful and revealing, but anyone who enlists the help of such a person has a difficult part to play. You see those who participate need to be both open minded and very cautious, not the easiest combo to employ. No one wants to be taken in by a fraud, but those who are too skeptical might never be able to grasp what is happening all around them.

I think the most important idea to review when it comes to this subject isn’t why people seek out this type of connection, that seems rather obvious, but why would other beings become involved? The idea that ghosts of the dead try to help out with loved ones or others they might have taken a liking to seems sound enough, but what about the other possibilities? In some cases a person with psychic abilities might not even be connecting with a human spirit, or a being that is deceased. There is no rule that states that paranormal beings can’t hide, lie or aren’t simply confused about communicating what they are and how we might define it.

As often as I have come across this subject in dealing with the world of the paranormal I feel no less certain about the purpose, though I have become convinced of its’ validity. Perhaps someday this will all become clear, but for now my advice would be: watch out for swindlers, but keep your mind and heart open to the possibilities. I would also suggest an agenda. If you’re simply looking to make a connection you might be disappointed, but armed with some specifics that you would like to address you may find the experience quite rewarding.

I would like to start this out by saying that though I do not consider myself a religious person, I do have a great respect for the experiences which have led people to feel that they are. I myself have had none. I know that may sound funny all things considered, but if anything it has made more skeptical of any spiritual group that seems to have an agenda.

Why is that? Because so many beings I have encountered do not seem to have an agenda. On earth we are constantly under the commanding force of one (seemingly) inescapable truth: time. Most of the spirits and ghost types and other beings I can’t really classify which  I have encountered do not seem to be disturbed by, or even concerned with a thing which governs every living person’s life.

Another reason I have no belief in religion despite the seemingly possible connection with all of my paranormal stories is that I have never…let me be clear on that…NEVER…encountered a being that could confirm any truth behind it. In fact, most of the beings I have encountered deny it completely. Not in some demonic, eccentric way, simply that we just haven’t quite hit upon how it really works beyond here.

Now there are those that might find that idea offensive and I am sorry about that because the last thing I would ever want to do is make a person feel badly about their beliefs, or more skeptical of my own experiences because they do not some to provide proof to back up their beliefs.

It is perhaps that many of the ghost hauntings are not meant to provide clarity about what happens to us when we die. In which case their communications would neither confirm nor deny the truth behind religion.

The best theory I can put together so far on this subject isn’t terribly concrete and I’m afraid doesn’t offer much comfort, but here goes:

From what I can piece together it is my understanding that there is no one entity that governs us. There is no place of punishment or reward awaiting the good and the evil. There is no comeuppance for the actions we take here that is dealt out by a single or group entity.

However, the actions we take do dictate what we are and what we may become. There are forces at work that may very well catch up with those who have acted in terrible ways, even if those forces are only the victims of those actions.

There are wonders past this life that only those who have lived the way they were supposed to may have access to and they may be rewarded for their good ways, even only if that reward comes in the form of sculpting themselves into something strong and good.

I can’t seem to find any evidence of rules. I believe that is our creation. What greater influence could be used to keep folks on the straight and narrow that the threat of an afterlife in the form of a nightmare? And what great reward than eternal bliss?

I am not trying to state that it is all wrong, or even that I am certain about the things which I have come to believe. In all honesty, I think there is very little that we can ever be certain about.

The best way to explain comes from one of my most frequent visitors and I will try to use his words to explain this theory, to the best of my ability:

This is part of one of the clearest conversations I have ever had with a paranormal being. There are aspects I still ponder even after all this time and I have come to believe there are things that were said that may beyond my understanding, at least more than a vague interpretation.

The point of expressing this theory is perhaps to show that I believe there are amazing things to come, what they are we may not yet understand, but they are coming. The other is perhaps to convey that the lines we draw to exclude others, to define the inexplicable, to maintain control in an area that we seem to have little or no control over are ones that I truly believe we created. That doesn’t mean there isn’t some validity to the forces behind our ideas, but it does mean that to follow unquestioningly maybe one of the largest mistakes a human being could ever make.

I strongly believe that any entity that cared for the creatures of this earth would admire our questioning and desire for truth. I also believe that any being who would scold for such behavior has a self serving agenda and that this would in no way indicate the actions of being superior to the dictators we know all too well as human beings and have worked so hard to be free of.

There are many people who do not believe in ghost hauntings by animals, even those who strongly believe in the paranormal. I have always found this strange personally because it was these spirits which allowed me to understand what was happening at a very early age.

Being moved around a lot as a child I believe causes one to feel distant from any normal attachments and though I certainly did inhabit more than one real haunted house I paid little attention to the beings around me for a long time.

It was the animals that captured my attention. It was they who perhaps allowed this ability, so often present in youth and so often obliterated in later years, to preserve my understanding against the deterioration of age.

Those who do believe in animal hauntings often make assumption about why an animal would remain behind after its’ death. A ghost cat or dog might stay close to those who cared for it, for example or a wild animal might continue to roam freely around its’ former hunting area.

I do believe that for some animals, just as with people this could be true. I have also come to understand that for some of the fauna in our world death eliminates their former selves and what they become has little need of revisiting the joys and sorrows of animal life.

In my experience, I have spoken with some who were once animals in our world, but have since moved past that point and even further beyond what a person might understand. The knowledge gained from such an experience has been amazingly expressed to me and I have marveled at the complexity which we take for granted so often in the wild life that surrounds us.

I think this is an important point to get across because above all I believe it is vital to recognize that while some beings do follow a pattern, nothing is certain. I learned this the hard way when my own pup was lost to me after being around most of my life. After so many years of receiving animal spirit visitors you can imagine my expectations. I waited after his passing to get a glimpse of him, to be comforted by his presence even if I couldn’t actually pet him (some you can, some you can’t go figure.)

Despite the bond we shared he never came. I believe this is worth noting. To me it marked a time when I realized there was no distinct pattern. That despite my ability I could not count on seeing those I love immediately following their deaths. I even went through a period of time where I seriously doubted what I was seeing and became exceptionally skeptical of any “visitors.”

Where was I going with this?

Oh yes, just that my theories on supernatural animals extend out the same way they do with deceased people and then of course all the rest of what’s out there. I suppose two points on this are what I’d like to make clear: One, if ghosts exist at all (which obviously I believe they do,) animal ghosts are just as much a part of that world as anything else. Two: don’t be discouraged if you lose a pet and they don’t stop by to give you a paranormal lick, this doesn’t mean they didn’t care. I would have to wait over a year before I understood this, but eventually I did receive a visit from someone who helped me understand. A story for another time.

One of the most commonly discussed physical reactions in paranormal stories is that of cold spots or feeling cold during an event of this kind. There are many theories on the subject ranging from ethereal explanations dating back thousands of years to more scientific explanations that simply explain how some of these, or all of these, beings effect our core temperatures.

In my own experiences I have found that in some cases the cold is only an outer layer. As if the being were surrounded by cold, but once this is penetrated the inner core is actually quite warm. I find this interesting for several reasons:

• One: I have never met another person who has had this same experience, though admittedly I have steered clear of many people who claim to see dead spirits or other types of paranormal beings. Why, I have done this is entirely different subject, I promise we’ll get to that eventually.
• Two: If what I am feeling is accurate it may help to confirm something that took me years to figure out; most of the experiences I have had have not been with dead human beings. Again, there is a lot to cover there and I assure you we will be getting into that in future posts.
• Three: If the cold is only an outer layer on some paranormal beings, this may be a way of telling one from another simply based on feeling, the same way a person might close their eyes, step outside and be able to know whether or not it was summer or winter.

In order to better understand this I have many times Shared Space with a being (see glossary.) I have spent hours trying to feel my way through what happens to my body physically when coming into direct contact with a paranormal being and have found that though the results vary from being to being there is definitely a consistency with the cold, be it though and through or just an exterior chill.

So why is this important? Because we still don’t know exactly how these beings work. What are their genetics like? Do they even have genetics? What causes living people to feel their presence as a chill or cold spot in a room?

The closer we get to understanding what type of physical presence a paranormal being has the better our understanding may be of why they are here and what we might learn from them.

Now it is important to remember that this subject is not a new one. People have been testing, talking, poking and chanting at spirits for years. They have been scrutinized, analyzed, theorized and even demonized over thousands of years. The cold issue has been looked at over and over again and may be a familiar response to you as well as the millions of people who have studied the paranormal over these many centuries. One thing however remains true: we still don’t know exactly why.

The most obvious place to begin apart from study and data, is simply to ask. Yes, just ask them why they seem to bring cold with them. Unfortunately this hasn’t been the easiest thing to communicate. I have had answers ranging from “because we do” to “we’re not cold, you are” and a great deal in-between. The paranormal beings I have come in contact with that seem to be able to communicate the most clearly have suggested that it is a combination of physical reaction to their presence combined with another kind of sense built in to alarm us, or alert us to the presence of something outside of our normal world.

I continue to wonder why this effect takes place, but I admit I have become accustom to it. Getting the chills has become such a part of my normal life that I barely even notice them anymore. I do pay attention to them if I suspect that something is in the room with me and I have not felt, seen or heard any other signs, but to base it on this alone always feels rather silly.

Like so many topics dealing with the paranormal, the cold which seems to accompany them appears to be yet another key to understanding their existence. I recommend that those looking for experiences pay attention to the cold, but do not rely on it too heavily to confirm the existence of something. After all, at this point we only have dots to connect, but nowhere to connect them to…yet.

As I wander through my past memories of the first paranormal events in my life I am fascinated not by just the events themselves, but the way a child takes in such experiences and separates them from the scary ghost stories that are a regular part of childhood. I felt that it was important to address this issue again in theory because I believe it is such a vital part of the beginning of human life.

One might assume that a child would be frightened by encounters with beings that are not a usual part of their world; that real hauntings might disturb the fragile mind of one so small. On the contrary, it has been my experience that children usually adapt well to the paranormal and it is only when they have been taught to fear what they do not understand that they begin to be frightened by these events.

My own parents accepted that I was able to see and hear things that they did not. I know that they never made assumptions about what I was experiencing, but they did not teach me to fear it either, only to be cautious as I would in any other area of life.

As a small child I was not told that ghosts did not exist, but that I might not need to feel afraid just because something was unusual. I found this way of thinking to be incredibly valuable in many areas of life and I am eternally grateful to my parents for teaching this to me.

Why is it that children can accept what many societies have difficulty understanding? I believe there are several factors that contribute to this.

One of the reasons might be, as I have already said, that many children have not yet learned to feel afraid of these out of the ordinary experiences. They remain open for interpretation based on how the paranormal being interacts with the child. Just as some people might not liked or disliked, so goes it with these beings that drift in and out of a child’s life.

Another reason that I believe contributes to children’s acceptance of the paranormal is that they have more to time to learn about and contemplate their surroundings. The young are expected to form their own ideas within the world that they live in and through these interactions in may seem as out of the ordinary to see paranormal beings as it is a plane in the sky.

Yet another reason which may cause children to be more open to experiences with the supernatural is they seem to be visited more often by such beings. Many theories exist about why the paranormal seem so often to be drawn to youth. It becomes a bit like the chicken and the egg though: do children see spirits because they are more open to it, or do spirits go to children because they know they have a better chance of being seen?

In the end, many children have at least a few experiences that come about in their early years that can not quite be explained. Many of these are chalked up to wild imaginations and naivety about the world in general. It may be an important stage in early life that gets too often overlooked and may even hold some important information about the unseen worlds around us.

To a child who is still learning about the world as they know it the appearance of a ghost or other paranormal being might not be such a strange idea as it will often be in later years. The important thing to note is that with advancement of life and the structure of a society that banishes these events from a realistic point of view, what are so many people losing touch with and what might be the effects of those losses? Perhaps few can say, for now.

It is not uncommon that children should see things that can’t always be explained. In many cases these sights and sounds that seem to elude parents and other adults are chalked up to active imaginations and the presence of friends straight of the creative mind.

Though it is very likely that in many cases the imaginary friends of children are indeed, just that, it is also very plausible that younger children may also be experiencing a ghostly encounter or other kinds of paranormal events.

Origin of Human

Some interesting theories on this stem from the idea that because children are closer to the origin of birth they may be more in tune with paranormal beings. Being so close to the very beginning of human existence one can assume fro this line of thought that certain beings are attracted to those who have just begun their life simply because they are closer to wherever it is humans originally come from before they have bodies.

Indistinguishable Paranormal

Another line of thinking suggests that children have not yet learned to associate these paranormal ghosts or beings with something that is out of the ordinary. To a small child, witnessing an event of this nature may seem no less normal than eating crackers or watching television.

In either case one of the first responses to these types of situations, in which a child reveals that they are seeing or hearing something that those who care for them cannot account for, most parents immediately begin taking action against the encouragement of these episodes. While many parents will tolerate an imaginary friend, most never consider that the friend might not be of the mind at all, but a real being outside of the basic knowledge of the human world.

As one who was neither encouraged nor discouraged in either direction by my parents, I would strongly recommend that any parent who finds themselves in such a situation be very careful about how they proceed.

Ignoring the problem may allow for a child to outgrow an imaginary stage completely, but may not allow the parents to become a key part of their world during this time period, which may have consequences later on.

To begin making assumptions as to what the child is seeing can be equally as destructive as there are many things outside of human understanding. If a child is interacting with a paranormal being it might be devastating for them to feel as though they cannot confide or rely on their parents for help.

An Unusual Child

Perhaps the most logical and involved method is to ask a child about what they see and hear. Inviting a child to draw, or if old enough write a description of the events which take place around them can be very helpful when trying to discuss the situation. While talking it is important that the parent remain on neutral ground; neither dismissing the “friend” as an illusion, nor jumping to the conclusion that their child is being haunted. By simply observing and allowing the child the comfort of knowing that their parents are in the loop a wealth of trust is built up that may very well outlast an active imagination or a curious supernatural being.

As a small child I often saw what most people would refer to as an aura around other people. I have no recollection of this, but my parents can confirm that I both spoke of it and drew pictures worth more than my jumbled vocabulary.

Every picture I drew, including those of animals included this envelope of color, each one perhaps a little different from the last, and using every color I think I could manage from my box of crayons.

While there exists plenty of data out there to confirm that many children see auras the explanation of precisely what an aura is still seems speculative at best. Looking over those old pictures I wish I could travel back and ask myself some questions, but as this isn’t (currently) possible I have to settle for interviews and studies in which other children have been observed adding this splash of color to the beings that they bring to life on paper.

Many children will draw auras around not just other people, but an imaginary friend, animals and even plant life. Others might draw auras to represent beings which others cannot see. Not that one should assume that an empty aura is a sign of a haunted kid, but it is definitely worth noting.

Most of my research is inconclusive, at least to my liking. Seeing auras would not appear to be a hallucination or a sign that something is wrong with the brain. Most official statements on the subject dance around any confirmation at all, which would lead me to believe that the truth is pretty simple: we still don’t know anything for certain.

In several experts I found that many children might even see the same color around one person though their interactions with the subject were all separate. I find that particularly interesting. If all auras look the same or similar to those who can see them, then one might assume that the color of an aura is based on the person it surrounds rather than the perspective of the one who sees it.

If this is true than there is much we might learn from studying auras. Consider the possibilities. What if a doctor could diagnose a patient’s illness immediately based on the color of their aura? Determine which patients have potentially fatal problems? Evaluate the level of a patient’s pain?

The problem is that finding an adult who can see auras isn’t easy. Even more problematic is the general perception of anyone who could. I have been, as of late, attempting to regain the ability to see these elusive colors around those closest to me, but have so far only been successful in straining my eyes. I welcome those who have experiences to share with their own abilities to do so as I would be very happy to have some current knowledge from those who have firsthand knowledge.

For the moment at least this potential useful and mysterious part of our world remains shadowed by a loss that seems to occur in so many young ones and the refusal of so many minds to peer beyond the borders of our known world.

Almost impossible to even venture a guess at what influences might factor into our births and how they affect the world we live in. I am not much of a believer in astrology, but who can truly say? Does an astrological sign dictate a future or help shed some light on all of the mysteries? I doubt I will ever know.

I know that as a baby I was welcomed into this world and cared for. Was it because I was kind enough to come before the summer months of blistering heat? Having parents who love you is incredibly important when at a very early age you begin telling them about people, animals and those ever elusive “others” who they simply cannot see.

As for the origin of what I can do, I’m afraid one theory would simply be too untrustworthy to accept. I’m afraid that line of reasoning will be all too common in many of my theories and for this I apologies to you.

How is it that one person is born who can see and hear things that others do not, while so many seem to not even notice? I invite you to share your ideas and in the meantime, here are my own theories on the subject:

1. Just as so many traits are passed down genetically, so are the abilities to interact with other beings and actively participate in paranormal events. I do have some history of this in my own family, though my records are miserably thin and I am unable to trace back more than a few generations.

1. These abilities are available to all human beings, but are only activated and enhanced through a series of events. Those who have a brush with death, either personally or through someone close to them may experience a new found ability to deal with unknown.

1. Everyone is born with the ability to interact with the supernatural world and many display signs of this at an early age. Over time this ability is diminished by the necessity to live in a logical world where time is precious and certainty quite valuable.

These are the ideas that seem to be most frequently brought up and confirmed by those I communicate with, though that certainly doesn’t make them true it does feel like the right direction to explore in.

I should note that I do believe that some people see and hear things that really aren’t there. That there are unreliable malfunctions of sorts in the brain that create fictitious events and experiences that are not part of anything but the actual person’s brain. That some people who see ghosts are not actually seeing ghosts at all is a subject I find fascinating in that I believe there could be so many explanations. I do sometimes question if some of the people that have been diagnosed with problems that can cause hallucinations may actually be witnessing something real or misunderstood, but that in itself I will leave to another post.
